Christmas Shoe Box Mission Project for Africa - Our Call to Community - to Do Greater Works

Are you or your unit (church) looking for a mission project for a good cause?  Please see the letter below received from Ray Crump, United Methodist Disaster Warehouse, sent to one of our UMW executive officers.

We hope that you will find it in your hearts to hear and respond to this important call.  Ray's contact information is noted at the bottom of his letter and per Esther, he will respond promptly!  Please contact him with questions and/or concerns in reference to this worthwhile appeal.

Thank you for your help in continuing our Call to Community - to Do GREATER Works!

You do NOT realize it, but you are part of a miracle.  By moving up your completion date, God is doing this.  The reason I say this is because there is a District Superintendent in Africa who heard about the Christmas shoe boxes.  He wrote that he has eight churches on some river and these children have never in their lives had anything given to them.  IF they could get a shoe box for Christmas, it would be the high light of their life.

But to ship to Africa, which is on the other side of the planet, it will take longer, a lot longer to get there.  He has requested 3,150 shoe boxes.  This is almost a full container.  We are going to need these back in the warehouse in September.

The District Superintendent has already translated the scripture in the coloring book into their local language.  We have to keep the Africa boxes separate from those with Spanish.  At this time, we will probably ask everyone doing shoe boxes for Africa to put a big letter "A" on both ends, so that we can keep the shipments separated.  WE have NOT made that decision at this time.

In which Athens are you living?  It is a very popular name for cities.  We can ship the shoe boxes to you, but we need your shipping address.  IF we can ship to a local business, for some reason it is cheaper than an individual home.  Wonder if there are any other Methodist churches in your area that might like to get the boxes back to us early?

If you can send the above requested information and your phone number we can talk.  Thanks you and may God bless all your efforts.

Thanks you,

Ray Crump
