About Us

As we look around our mission field in North Georgia, we can see new neighbors from all over the world moving into our neighborhoods, hoping to find a place to belong. It is at this time that the summary of all commandments resounds clearly once more: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'

"The entire population within the conference area has continued to grow, including the Hispanic/Latino population. In the year 2008 there are more than 605,499 Hispanics/Latinos living within the boundaries of the Conference.  Hispanic/Latinos are now 8.8% of the population and are expected to grow between 2008 and 2013 to become 11% of the total population.

"As our conference continues to grow in membership, we have also grown in the number of churches that are embracing their Hispanic/Latino neighbors.

"At the beginning of 2008, the North Georgia Conference had 23 ministries with Latinos that offer community ministries, as well as Bible studies, worship services, and counseling. Among the community ministries offered are: English classes, GED classes, computer classes, after-school programs, health services, etc. These ministries are offered in Spanish or Portuguese.

"The Committee on Hispanic Church Development has made training a priority, offering different topics for pastors and lay members such as preaching, pastoral care, spiritual gifts, liturgy, and Christian education.

"Hispanic/Latino youth are a vital part of the ministry of these congregations, and offering opportunities for them to grow in their faith as they navigate growing up between two cultures and two languages is critical.

"We celebrate that as of the end of 2008 there are 1,7625 Hispanic/Latino members in the North Georgia Conference.

"In May 2007, with the support of the General Board of Discipleship, Module I of the Lay Missioner and Pastor/Mentor Training Program of the National Plan for Hispanic/Latino Ministry was offered in three languages: Spanish, English, and Portuguese. This program teaches effective strategies to reach Hispanics/Latinos.

"As a church, we are challenged by new populations whom we do not know how to reach. Yet, we are walking humbly and in faith finding ways to overcome fear with love and boldness in order to effectively share Christ with our Hispanic/Latino neighbors..."
