Glisson Village Activities
Village Camp is open to rising 2nd - 12th graders. Glisson has different programming that corresponds to the likes and needs of each age group we serve. We invite you to browse the many activities available to Village campers by clicking the "Slideshow" link above. All activities are led by trained Glisson staff.
ARCHERY: Campers will learn archery fundamentals: proper safety techniques and equipment use, how to string a bow, aim and fire an arrow, and how to safely retrieve arrows.
KAYAKING: Campers will kayak on Lake Hale. They will learn proper life jacket wear and paddling technique. They will participate in lake-adapted games, such as capture the flag and freeze tag.
CHAPEL PLANNING: Campers plan, practice, and peform a skit, and choose music and props to go along with their ideas for a specific morning or night chapel service.
LOW ELEMENTS: Campers will participate in a counselor-led low ropes course that focuses on building individual confidence, as well as teamwork and unity within their group.
SPARROWWOOD: Sparrowwood campers and their counselor are matched with a Village living group for three activities during the week. These activities are pre-planned to ensure that they correspond to the abilities and interests of all campers participating.
TEAM BUILDING: In the case of bad weather, campers will play indoor games in the Holland Building including basketball, relay races, kickball, and many others.
ARTS & CRAFTS: Campers will be able to participate in various art activities. These can include drawing, painting, mosaics, collages, friendship bracelets, pottery, paper making, and more!
SWIMMING: Campers will get to play and swim in the pool. They will also get to participate in counselor-led water games, such as sharks & minnows and Marco Polo. All campers will complete a brief swim test to determine their swimming ability level.
FIELD GAMES: Campers participate in various outdoor games. They will have the opportunity to choose which games they want to play. A big favorite is Ultimate Frisbee. The counselors will be prepared to suggest and lead many other exciting team games.
SERVICE: Campers can work together on a project designed to serve a specific need of camp. The Glisson Maintenance staff and counselors will help the campers design a plan of action. This may include painting, working in the creek, clearing a trail, etc.
FOCUS TIME: Campers will participate in counselor-led group discussion bible studies in the mornings and after night chapels.
CHALLENGE COURSE: Campers will have an opportunity to participate in above-ground elements on our multi-element challenge course -- Alpine Tower (pictured), High Elements, Zip Line, Climbing Wall, and Low Elements.
ALPINE TOWER: The Alpine Tower is like climbing an enormous tree. Campers can choose from a variety of ways to ascend the tower. Glisson follows a "Climb by Choice" philosophy where campers choose how high they wish to climb.
ZIP LINE: Riders travel over 600 feet, crossing over a small lake in the process.
ZIP LINE: Zip line riders can zip two-by-two, adding to the excitement of flying down the mountain side.
CLIMBING WALL: Have you ever wanted to climb a water tower? Now you can! We've transformed our out-of-use water tower into a 6-route climbing wall beneath a forest canopy.
CHALLENGE COURSE: All Challenge Course events are led by trained facilitators.
HIGH ELEMENTS: Added in summer 2008, the High Elements course includes the Leap of Faith (pictured), Giant's Ladder, and High Y events.
