Honor someone with a pin & certificate while giving to missions. A certificate announcing the Awarding of the Special Mission Recognition to the Honoree accompanies the pin.
Undesignated gifts of $5 and up to honor a baby, youth or adult. Cards are available for Thank you, Missionary, Congratulations, Baby, Thinking about you, or Special Day. They may be purchased singly or in packs of 10.
Gifts of $50 or more may be made to place the name of a loved one on the Memorial Roll. Cards will be sent by each District Treasure.
Mission Gift of $7.50 or more. Frame-able certificate and red ribbon bookmark.
Mission Gifts in amounts up to $5o may be made in remembrance of a member of a friend who has died. Gift in Memory cards are available from the Service Center and district treasurers for use in announcing the gift.
You may honor or memorialize a special person in your life who will be remembered while the candle burns. Giving undesignated funds in this way will enable our mission program to expand and our missionaries to be funded.
Individuals, circles, units, or non UMW persons may contribute by giving their contribution to the local unit treasurer. She will in turn report it to the district treasurer with the third quarter report. Announcement cards are available form the district treasurer.
These women are especially interested in advancing missions around the world and contribute enough money at one time to keep missions around the world going for ONE MINUTE.
These "Minute Women" may contribute in honor or in memory of a special person. Those units that have 5 Minute Women or as a unit contribute enough money to keep missions going for 5 minutes are known as "Five Minute Units" Either way the purpose of UMW is fulfilled and recognized with Minute Women Ribbons at the UMW Annual Meeting in October.
Units contribute to all of the following five channels of giving.
1. Pledge to mission
2. Gift to Mission=cards & baby certificates
3. Gift in Memory= Memorials of $50.00 and regular Gift In Memory cards
4. Special Mission Recognition Pins
5. World Thank Offering
Units achieve this status when they complete the above 5 channels of giving PLUS either Minute Women or Candleburning.
(The year runs from August 1 until JuIy31 for Five Star and Five Star Plus units.)
Mission Today Unit: Complete 5 items, 3 must be asterisk items
Silver Mission Today Unit: Complete 6 items,3 must be asterisk items
Gold Mission Today Unit: Complete 9 items, 5 must be asterisk items
Mission Today Unit: Complete 10 items, 5 must be asterisk items.
Silver Mission Today Unit: Complete 12 items, 5 must be asterisk items.
Gold Mission Today Unit: Complete all 17 items.
____ *1. Use the Prayer Calendar at each general meeting of the unit to pray for people in mission and for our mission work with women, children and youth.
____ *2. The unit will make and meet its pledge to mission.
____ *3. The unit will add at least two new members to its roll.
____ *4. The unit will have at least two members subscribing to Response magazine.
____ *5. The unit will have at least two programs from the Program Book during the year.
____ *6. The unit, circle or subgroup will conduct at least one mission study a year.
____ *7. The unit will implement the Charter for Racial Justice Policies in at least two ways during the year. Some suggested plans of action:
(A) ...Plan a joint unit meeting with a unit of difference racial/ethnic background using programs from the program book.
(B) ...Develop bi-racial/cultural or multi—racial/cultural Koinonia groups. Hold a joint Vacation Bible School.
(C) ...Hold pulpit exchanges.
(D) ...Share joint worship services on special occasions.
(E) ...Encourage the church to sponsor a refugee family.
____ 8. At least one member of the unit (other than Conference or District officers) will attend the Conference or District Mission Education Event.
____ 9. At least two members (other than Conference or District officers) will attend the District or Conference Annual Meeting.
____ 10. The unit will have at least one person join the United Methodist Women's Action Network to receive and respond to legislative information.
____ 11. Members shall write to five people listed in the Prayer Calendar at least twice a year.
____ 12. The unit will participate in the Campaign for Children in two ways. Help sponsor a church or community program related to children and youth needs. Sponsor a children's Sabbath promoted by the Children's Defense Fund. Get involved with children in mentoring, tutoring, and "Big Sisters" programs. Write letters email or call a congregational representative and or others in government regarding children's issues.
____ 13. The unit will be a 5 Star unit contributing to all 5 channels of undesignated giving.
____ 14. The unit will contribute to a mission project, such as UMCOR (United Methodist Committee On Relief), RRISA (Refugee Resettlement & Immigration Services of Atlanta), or other United Methodist Women National Mission Institutions.
____ 15. Each unit, circle or subgroup meeting will include a "Response Moment" where an article from the Response magazine will be lifted up as a way to tell the mission story.
____ 16. Have at least two people from the unit, circle or subgroup complete one of the Reading Program plans and report on one of the books. And encourage all members to complete Plan One.
____ 17. The unit will invite a District or Conference officer other than a member of that unit to one or more of the unit meetings during the year.
