'Rethink Church' Welcome Training in August

7/6/2009

North Georgia United Methodists are invited to “rethink church” at a training event August 1 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Peachtree Road UMC in Atlanta. “Rethink Church” is the next phase of the denomination’s inviting and welcoming ministry. The training is co-sponsored by the North Georgia Annual Conference and United Methodist Communications.

Nationally, the “Rethink Church” advertising campaign launched May 5. A new Web site, www.10thousanddoors.org, showcases a number of ways the United Methodist Church is rethinking church and connecting people with opportunities to make the world a better place.

Choose from three different workshop tracks
Participants in the August 1 workshop will split into three different tracks—”Welcome,” “Connect” and “Identify”—to focus on different pieces of the welcoming ministry.

  • “Welcome” will focus on how congregations can make newcomers feel welcome and become more aware of how newcomers might see the church’s facility and experience its members.
  • “Connect” will focus on how church members can connect with newcomers personally and how to use Igniting Ministry’s “Rethink Church” resources to provide additional connection points.
  • “Identify” will focus on helping a congregation discover what it’s known for and what its strengths are, how to design strategies for showcasing those strengths and how to put those strategies to work.

Registering for this event
Churches are invited to bring a team or three of more and cover all three sessions, or individuals attending alone may choose ONE on the sessions that will prove most helpful to their congregation. The cost is only $40 per individual or church team.  Lunch will be provided, and will be an additional cost of $10 per attendee.  If you have difficulty registering, or have questions, please contact Tim McDaniel @ 678.533.1377.

This training is a continuation of North Georgia's commitment to Rethink Church. At Annual Conference in June, Larry Hollin, General Secretary of United Methodist Communication, addressed members and showed a Rethink Church ad spot. That afternoon Ken Sloan of the advertising agency that created the Rethink Church Campaign led an information session on Rethink Church.
