Disaster response update and volunteer needs

      From packing lunches to removing trees, many volunteers are needed across the North Georgia Conference to clean up the aftermath of the April storms. If you’d like to help, contact the Conference Disaster Response Team at 678-533-1443, which is matching clean-up and repair needs with volunteer teams. Call Center hours are 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
      Donations are being accepted to help relief efforts. Drop a check into your church offering plate (made out to your local church and marked #3740 North Georgia Conference Disaster Relief) or mailed to the North Georgia Conference Treasurer's Office (made out to NGUMC and marked #3740) at PO Box 102417, Atlanta, GA 30368-2417. 
      McEachern Memorial UMC in Powder Springs has been designated as a central receiving and distribution site for nonperishable food and supplies. Drop goods at Oaks Hall on McEachern's campus from noon-4 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, or 2-6 p.m. Wednesdays. For more info, contact Donna Goff at 770-943-3008 or

SPALDING COUNTY / GRIFFIN

      Volunteer teams are needed for tree removal. Bobcats with claws on the front are needed for moving cut trees. Nonperishable food, and other donations will be received at 819 Memorial Dr., Griffin, 7 a.m. -7 p.m. seven days a week. The greatest needs are nonperishable food, bottled water, building supplies, baby formula, baby diapers, cribs, strollers, car seats, household items, blankets, personal hygiene products, leather gloves, tarps, cleaning supplies, plastic goods (cups and cutlery), paper goods (napkins, plates, paper towels, toilet paper), disposable gloves and trash bags. No clothing donations.
 
RINGGOLD

      Teams needed for chainsaw operation, tree removal, debris removal, putting tarps on roofs, equipment to move cut trees. Supplies needed include tools, hammers, plastic cap roofing nails, brooms, mops, bleach, hard hats, safety glasses. Deliver to Ringgold Telephone Company - 423-802-9553.

MERIWETHER COUNTY / MANCHESTER

        Manchester First UMC, at 206 Broad St., is providing lunches for children out of school due to storm damage. Drivers are needed at 11 a.m. to deliver lunches at 11 a.m.
      Teams with chain saws are needed for tree removal and debris cleanup. Teams with bobcats or small tractors are needed to move trees to curb for pickup. Housing is available for volunteer work teams.

      Warm Springs Fire Department is collecting small containers of bleach, laundry detergent, diapers, sunscreen and deodorant. Call 706-655-2030.

FLOYD COUNTY / ROME

     The Disaster Recovery Center on West 3rd Street is accepting donations of bottled water, construction bags, garbage bags, tarps, gloves, masks, toiletry items, and sunscreen. Clothes not accepted.
     Canned protein items, such as canned chicken, meat, Spaghettios, macaroni and cheese, will be accepted at Bagwell Food Pantry, Rome Action Ministries (706-766-2031), Habitat for Humanity, Third Street Ministries and The Salvation Army in Rome and Floyd County. Non-perishable items, bottled water, Gatorade, paper towels, cleaning supplies, gloves, and lidded totes (like Rubbermaid storage bins), tarps, heavy duty garbage bags, work gloves are also needed.
      Clothing accepted at Salvation Army and Third Street Ministries only.

BARTOW COUNTY / PINE LOG
