Disaster response update and volunteer needs

FLOYD COUNTY / ROME

COAD (Community Organizations Assisting in Disasters) of Floyd County needs volunteers with chainsaws to help with the trees that fell. If you are interested in volunteering as part of a group or as an individual, please call 706-291-5144 or e-mail
Donated items can take to the Disaster Recovery Center on West 3rd Street. The following items are being accepted: bottled water, construction bags, garbage bags, tarps, gloves, masks, toiletry items, sunscreen. We are NOT accepting clothes.
Contributions will be accepted at Bagwell Food Pantry, Rome Action Ministries (706-766-2031), Habitat for Humanity, Third Street Ministries and The Salvation Army in Rome and Floyd County.
Priority items needed are: Canned protein items, such as canned chicken, meat, Spaghettios, macaroni and cheese, etc. Non-perishable items, bottled water, Gatorade, paper towels, cleaning supplies, gloves, and lidded totes (like Rubbermaid storage bins). Tarps, heavy duty garbage bags, work gloves are also needed.
Clothing accepted at Salvation Army and Third Street Ministries only.

Teams needed now for chainsaw operation, tree removal, debris removal, putting tarps on roofs, equipment to move cut trees.
Building supplies needed include tools, hammers, plastic cap roofing nails, brooms, mops, bleach, hard hats, safety glasses, roofing materials, plywood or OSB, roofing felt, sheetrock, 2x4s, and general building supplies. Call 423-218-8421 to arrange delivery.

MERIWETHER COUNTY / MANCHESTER

Teams are needed with chain saws for tree removal and debris cleanup. Teams with bobcats or small tractors are needed to move trees to curb for pickup.
Volunteers needed to assist with childcare Monday through Friday during the summer.
Housing is available for volunteer work teams.
Manchester also needs volunteers to help clean the apartments/rooms where work teams are being housed as well as give paper goods, soap, snacks, etc. to stock these apartments. Contact Stephen (706-601-5368) if you or your group can help.
Warm Springs Fire Department is collecting ketchup and queen-sized sheet sets. Call 706-655-2030.

McEACHERN UMC TO BE SUPPLY RECEIVING AND DISTRIBUTION SITE

McEachern Memorial UMC in Powder Springs is a central receiving and distribution site for nonperishable food and supplies. Drop goods at Oaks Hall on McEachern's campus from noon-4 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday and 2-6 p.m. Wednesday.
NORTH ALABAMA CONFERENCE CALL CENTER
The North Alabama Conference Disaster Response Center Call will field phone calls for the North Alabama Conference tornado disaster response from 7 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday – Friday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday and 1-5 p.m. Sunday.
