Off-Broadway actor to perform new show at Roswell UMC
Brad Sherrill will present his new multimedia performance of Prophets, based on Isaiah, Jeremiah, and other prophetic texts, at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 21 at Roswell UMC. Prophets is now on a U.S. tour following its debut at the Conant Performing Arts Center in Atlanta last year.
Sherrill is known to audiences worldwide for his presentation of The Gospel of John, which he has performed more than 600 times throughout the U.S., Canada, the U.K., and Ireland.
Prophets is Sherrill’s first theatrical piece to bring biblical texts into modern times through the use of multimedia imagery. During the performance, the prophets are called like witnesses into a courtroom as images illustrating judgment, loss, promise, and hope pass by on a large video screen.
The actor stresses that a sense of hope and salvation weave through the prophets’ words. "We can’t, sitting here (in 2011), imagine a world where there is not injustice, war, or violence, a world where a billion people don’t live in extreme poverty. But the prophets can. They have this beautiful poetic imagery that seems to be expressing God’s hope."
Tickets to the 95-minute performance are $10 in advance, $15 at the door. General seating tickets are available through iTickets or at Roswell UMC’s front office. For more information, call 770-993-6218, or visit www.rumc.com
