LaGrange College President Dan McAlexander loves to hear from alumni whose lives were touched in a meaningful way by the time they spent on the Hill.
“I never get tired of hearing what this institution means to our alums,” he said. “Their anecdotes keep me inspired and focused on our mission of transforming the lives of our students and our communities.”
Hoping to hear more stories and make more connections, Dr. McAlexander and First Lady Celeste Myall have embarked on a tour from the Blue Ridge Parkway to the Golden Isles, to attend gatherings of alumni and friends of the college.
The adventure kicked off Sept. 6 in Newnan for Barbecue and Bluegrass in the Newnan-Coweta Depot History Center. Attendees enjoyed Sprayberry’s famous barbecue and heard live music in downtown Newnan’s historic 1850s train depot.
The next stop will be Sept. 16 for a Panther Tailgate from 2 to 4 p.m. at Wills Park, Lions Club Pavilion No. 3 in Alpharetta. Fall is the time for fun and football, so guests are encouraged to wear their red and black and start the season off in true tailgate style.
The Georgia coast will be the location for a gathering from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Sept. 20 at The Lodge at Sea Island Golf Club. Sit back and savor the ocean view and seafood hors d’oeuvres with alumni and friends. The evening will end with a bagpipe serenade at sunset.
The tour rolls into Macon on Sept. 23 for Peaches and Pralines from 4 to 6 p.m. at the home of David and Kathy Reese McCollum ’81. Enjoy homemade peach ice cream under the gazebo as summer officially gives way to fall.
Do the tomahawk chop on Sept. 27 as the fun continues at Turner Field. The Braves will take on the Miami Marlins in a 7:10 p.m. game, and the LaGrange College gang will be on hand to cheer them on.
What better way to end the Celebrate Georgia tour than in LaGrange for Homecoming Weekend? Panther Palooza II will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Oct. 5 in downtown. Register on Lafayette Square for free pizza and ice cream, then enjoy music, kid-friendly inflatables and more as downtown LaGrange pulls out all the stops.
Celebrate Georgia is being coordinated by Martha Pirkle, Director of the Office of Alumni and Community Relations.
“We are so excited to be able to go out and meet our alums and friends where they live,” she said. “It’s a great way to reconnect with old friends and to make some new ones.”
Those interested in attending should RSVP by calling (706) 880-8244 or emailing firstname.lastname@example.org at least 10 days before the event.
