Rock Eagle features Bishop Watson as keynote speaker

Final plans are being made for the Sept. 28-30 UM Men’s retreat at Rock Eagle. And organizers are, as usual, prepared for the inevitable rush of late registrations.
“It’s pretty much that way every year,” said Robert Kopp, UM Men’s Executive VP for Retreats for North Georgia. “There is always a flood at the last minute.”
After witnessing a few years of declining participation at Rock Eagle, Kopp, and others in leadership of UM Men, believe the presence of Bishop Mike Watson will help reverse that trend. Last year, approximately 480 men attended Rock Eagle, held annually at the 4H Center in Eatonton.
Bishop Watson’s message will follow the theme: “We Are Called To Be Courageous.”
“We are excited about this year’s event,” Kopp said. “UM Men have been working to publicize the retreat and we believe that the presence of Bishop Watson will draw a lot of pastors who may never have attended Rock Eagle before.”
The 51st men’s gathering at Rock Eagle will feature workshops and activities geared toward a younger set. A climbing wall and zip line are among the new additions.
There is also increased emphasis on hands-on projects, such as a Stop Hunger Now food-packaging event, which is planned for this fall.
Music to be provided by the all-clergy group Wild At Heart, the Cross Walk praise team, Ralph Freeman, and the UMMen volunteer choir.        Other on-site activities include fishing, tennis, baseball, basketball, football and hiking trails. Pre-retreat offsite activities include the  annual Rock Eagle Golf Tournament at The Creek at Hard Labor golf course.
