Be Counted: 10-Fold returns highlighting five projects in October

9/27/2012

On October 1st, 10-Fold returns for a month-long celebration of five exciting projects, each highlighted for a full week. And with just a click of your mouse, you can become an advocate for mission!

10-Fold is an online event that shines a light on United Methodist projects around the world supported by the General Board of Global Ministries and UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief).

By clicking on the site each week, you register your interest in a ministry, triggering $1 of support given by one of our sponsors.

Everyone can get involved by advocating, raising awareness, giving, and watching it expand “10-Fold.” Your participation comes with the guarantee that 100 percent of all money raised goes directly to the project or ministry you donate to or support.

Here is the schedule of projects that will be featured at 10-Fold.org:

Week 1: Disaster Relief
The digital event kicks off October 1st with a focus on disaster relief. Learn more about the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR), a nonprofit organization dedicated to alleviating human suffering around the globe. UMCOR’s work reaches people in more than 80 countries, including the United States. Among other activities, volunteers will be invited to construct relief-supply kits.

Week 2: Young People in Mission
Young people are not just the future of The United Methodist Church, they are changing the world today. Week Two of 10-Fold begins on October 8, and will introduce ways that young people can engage in mission. Young adult missionaries will share how they are making an impact in the communities they serve.

Week 3: Mission Initiatives
Beginning October 15, learn about how Mission Initiatives are introducing The United Methodist Church to countries from Asia to Latin America, and sharing the gospel through word and deed. By being an advocate for Mission Initiatives, you support growth in places where The United Methodist Church is new to the population. Global Ministries is empowering young churches as they engage in works of piety and mercy.

Week 4: Missionaries
United Methodist missionaries are growing a global force for faith and hope in more than 60 countries, including the US. The week of October 22 tells the story of missionaries who come from many places and backgrounds to witness and serve around the world as congregational and leadership developers, pastors, educators, regional coordinators for UMCOR, agriculturalists, health coordinators, and doctors. On October 26, join in prayer and celebration as new missionaries are commissioned during a service that will be webcast live.

Week 5: Fair Trade
Who benefits when you purchase fairly traded products? Beginning October 29, learn how you support just and sustainable economies by choosing to buy Fair Trade items. UMCOR connects consumers with Fair Trade-certified companies and other socially responsible businesses. Some businesses exploit their workers, and entire communities become trapped in vicious cycles of poverty. Fair wages allow farmers and artisans to feed their families, send their children to school, gain access to healthcare, and much more.
