The UMW Annual Meeting on October 6 at Snellville UMC was truly a day that the Lord had made, as woman from across the North Georgia Conference gathered to rejoice and to be in the presence of God for their 40th annual meeting.
The day was filled with song led by Snellville UMC Sanctuary Choir. Dr Jim Cantrell, pastor of Snellville UMC, and the Snellville UMW demonstrated radical hospitality and a special Communion Service. Several District Superintendents served communion. Rev. Jasmine Smothers, associate director of Connectional Ministries, blessed the group with a powerful sermon on the theme “All Things Made New."
A memorial service remembered Rev. Renita Thomas, Marie Copher and the deceased women from all the districts for their dedicated service.
Deloris Carhee (current NGC UMW President) passed the gavel to Sue Raymond (incoming 2013 NGC UMW President) and made a special presentation to thank the Conference UMW Leadership Team and all in attendance.
Tryphenia Speed (Vice President) opened the Awards luncheon with a presentation from the Limitless Young Women's/Teen group and the Conference Officers reports celebrated the numerous accomplishments throughout the year. New Officers were installed and the outgoing officers received Special Mission Recognition pins for their servant leadership. The program ended with tributes, awards, special music (“To God be the Glory") song by Rev. Shellena Atlas and the UMW Purpose was read by three women in Korean, Spanish and English.
The UMW collected 172 UMCOM layette kits and 76 UMCOR birthing kits as a mission project for this meeting. They will be sent to UMCOR for Sager Brown to distribute to women worldwide.
