UMW 40th Annual Meeting was a day of rejoicing
The UMW Annual Meeting on October 6 was truly a day that the Lord had made, as woman from across the North Georgia Conference gathered, to rejoice and to be in the presence of God. Our theme was “All Things Made New.”
The meeting began with a song led by Snellville UMC Sanctuary Choir as we processed in and wholed us in beautiful music througout the day. Dr Jim Cantrell and the Snellville UMW welcomed us with open arms that demonstrated their radical hospitality and a special Communion Service in song. The District Superintendents (or representative) served communion in remembrance of Jesus Christ.
Rev. Jasmine Smothers blessed us with a powerful sermon that encouraged us to do new things.
The business items of the day were voted on and the memorial service remembered Rev. Renita Thomas, Marie Copher and the deceased women from all the districts for their dedicated service.
Deloris Carhee (current NGC UMW President) passed the gavel to Sue Raymond (incoming 2013 NGC UMW President) and made a special presentation to thank the Conference UMW Leadership Team and all in attendance.
Tryphenia Speed (Vice President) opened the Awards luncheon with a presentation from the Limitless Young Women's/Teen group and the Conference Officers reports celebrated the numerous accomplishments throughout the year. New Officers were installed and the outgoing officers received Special Mission Recognition pins for their servant leadership. The program ended with awards, tributes to Deloris Carhee from the Conference UMW Team and her Calvary UMC family, special music (“To God be the Glory") song by Rev. Shellena Atlas. The UMW Purpose wasread by three women in Korean, Spanish and English.
A special thanks for the 172 layette kits and 76 birthing kits collected for our mission project for this meeting to give to UMCOR for Sager Brown to distribute to women worldwide.
