Responding to Hurricane Sandy: Long-term recovery teams needed

1/24/2013

Conferences heavily affected by Superstorm Sandy last October are ready to receive long-term recovery volunteer teams. All UMVIM (United Methodist Volunteers in Mission) teams are required to have a trained UMVIM team leader when they sign up to volunteer. To register your team, use the contact information listed below. In some cases you will need to sign up under the ERT (Early Response Team) registration.

If you do not receive an email response after you register, contact the site again.

  • New York Conference: www.Nyac.com: five sites open, register online
  • Greater New Jersey Conference: www.gnjumc.org: nine sites open, register online
  • Peninsula-Delaware Conference: Schedule teams through the Disaster Response Coordinator, Rich Walton. They are working on the eastern shore of the Chesapeake Bay in Crisfield, Maryland.
  • West Virginia Conference: Contact Jenny Gannaway

For more information contact Rev. Thom Shores, North Georgia Disaster Response Chair, at 770-949-2555 or thom.shores@ngumc.net, or Dalton Rushing, conference UMVIM chair, at 770-497-8215.

You can also support continuing recovery work to help Sandy survivors by putting a donation in your offering plate for Hurricanes 2012, UMCOR Advance #3021787.
