Leonard Sweet to Preach and Teach at Duluth First

7/17/2013

Dr. Leonard Sweet, a distinguished professor, evangelist, United Methodist minister, and author of many inspiring books including The Gospel According to Starbucks and Nudge: Awakening Each Other to the God Who’s Already There, will be preaching and teaching at Duluth First UMC August 2- 4.

Sweet will be keynote speaker at the “Gather Us In” church revival August 2-4.  The public is invited to hear him speak at revival services on Friday evening, Saturday evening, and at two Sunday services.

In addition to preaching, Sweet will lead two Saturday workshops. For lay leadership of your congregation, he will speak on the topic: Deep and Wide Discipleship – What does it mean to really “go deep” in your faith, in your relationships, and in your life?  The cost for the workshop is $25 per person and advanced registration is required.  Check-in will begin at 8:30am and the workshop will run from 9-11:30am.

Duluth First then extends a special invitation to members of the clergy to attend a thought provoking workshop with Dr. Sweet entitled “To Serve This Present Age, Our Calling to Fulfill” on Saturday 2-4pm.  As followers of Christ, we are all missionaries as we work to spread the good news, build God’s kingdom, and make disciples of all people.  Yet, we often fail to truly speak the language of the culture to which we are sent as missionaries.  This workshop will explore the ‘lingua franca’ of today’s culture and how Clergy might improve their communication skills for mission in a world that has changed from Gutenberg to Google.  The cost of the workshop is $75 per person and advanced registration is required.
