North Georgia Conference releases new mobile apps for Android and iPhone

How can you easily stay up to date on breaking conference news, messages from the bishop, and upcoming events?

Download the North Georgia UMC mobile app onto your smartphone.

The new mobile apps are available free of charge for iPhone and Android phones/tablets. In addition to the calendar and news, features include connections to conference Church Locator, Clergy Locator, Twitter and Instagram feeds.  In the Facebook feature, you can view and also “share” each post via your email, messaging, or your own Facebook profile.

“We are working to reach our church leaders for ministry wherever they are,” said Mike Selleck, director of Connectional Ministries. “Our communications ministry is striving to become a leader in mobile technology in today’s world where so many rely on their smartphones and tablets for communication.”

In the U.S., nearly 200 million persons own and use smartphones – not only for telephone calls – but as hand-held computers. Most persons with smartphones have downloaded 40 or more apps to connect to their favorite entertainment, organizations, and information.

Many North Gerogia Conference churches offer apps, too. Mt Bethel UMC in Marietta features staff blogs and videos. Impact in Atlanta has announcements, a verse of the day, and multimedia features.

NGUMC app was developed through United Methodist Communications’ Techshop which partnered with OCV (formerly Ourchurchvideos) to offer discounted non-profit pricing on mobile app development through www.myUMCapp.com, and on live video streaming via www.myUMClive.com.

“In today’s world, mobile apps offer the local church a better way to connect with their members,” said Suzy Keenan, communications strategist with OCV. “And mobile apps can a new method for outreach – an innovative way for members to share all they love about their church with their family, friends, and neighbors.”

In addition to The North Georgia Conference UMC, OCV has built mobile apps for the Eastern Pennsylvania, Great Plains, Iowa, and Northwest Texas Annual Conferences, as well as for the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR). Mobile apps are also in development for South Georgia, Texas, and Arkansas Conferences.
