The District Superintendent from the Mile High/Pikes Peak District in Colorado emailed the Rocky Mountain Conference today asking for prayer and sharing resources after a shooting in a Colorado high school. Read the email below and find helpful church resources on school violence and how to help children after a crisis.
Dear Rocky Mountain Conference,
There was a shooting today at Arapahoe High School in Littleton, Colorado. The gunman (an unidentified student at the school) has died, targeting a teacher who escaped unharmed. One student is in critical condition. Churches with students at Arapahoe High School include Littleton, St. Andrew, St. Luke's, Asbury Korean and Parker. Both Littleton and St. Luke's are open for prayer. At this point all we need are your fervent prayers for everyone impacted by this tragic situation. Please make sure your church has current emergency procedures in place. A General Board of Discipleship resource dealing with school violence may be found at http://www.gbod.org/live-the-um-way/school-violence. An article on how to help children after a crisis may be found at http://www.ministrymatters.com/all/article/entry/3465/how-to-help-children-after-a-crisis. May the Prince of Peace have mercy upon us all.
