“This is hands-down the most effective session I have ever attended. Some of the most creative people in the conference were there. Getting different perspectives and sharing ideas was invaluable to me.”
--Rev. John Merk, Lithia Springs UMC
In its third year, "Kindling The Fire" reading week for pastors, is becoming both an anticipated and invaluable annual event. This year's reading week will be Feb. 24-27 at Glisson Retreat Center in Dahlonega.
The retreat offers clergy time to listen to the scripture lessons read aloud, and to take notes and record ideas. Then time is set aside to develop themes, objectives and identify potential preaching series. District Superintendents and other Conference leaders serve as readers and Bishop Watson will lead the Tuesday morning session. Dawn Chesser, Director of Preaching Ministries at the General Board of Discipleship, will serve as a resource person throughout the event.
Though the retreat follows the lectionary as a way of organization, participants aren't bound to the lectionary approach.
The event is expected to reach capacity of 60 clergy again this year, but there are still spaces available to register.
The cost is $255 per person. The fee covers all program materials, 2014-2015 Music and Worship Planner, lodging for three nights and nine meals. Register and find more information at www.ngumc.org/kindlingthefire.
