On Thursday evening Bahamas Methodist Habitat, a North Georgia Conference Bridge partner, shared that the worst of the storm had passed Eleuthera, where the organization is headquartered.
"Power is still on and off and cell service has been off all day," they shared. "We now lift up Nassau, Ragged Island, Inagua, and Grand Bahamas as they have received the bulk of Matthew. A lot of our staff and community have family in these places. We also lift up on prayer Florida and the rest of the US that will also feel the effects of this storm."
Bahamas Methodist Habitat will soon begin assisting in recovery and rebuilding in Eleuthera and in surrounding islands based on weather and conditions on the ground.
Beyond the BMH, the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) has been in contact with its partners in the region, including Haiti, Cuba, Jamaica, as well as the Bahamas.
