Community Makeover-Fellowship UMC

Before

After

Fellowship UMC, a 2006 new church start, participated in the 2009 Community Makeover along with 34 other churches in Paulding and Cobb counties.  The folks of Fellowship UMC came together Sunday, August 2nd to celebrate Holy Communion and pray before going out to “Be the Church” by completing a total of 8 service projects.  Projects included everything from stuffing book bags full of school supplies, landscaping at Nebo Elementary School, to a mini home makeover that lasted three days.  Some 175 people from various churches served at the project sites that Fellowship UMC oversaw.   All total, the 35 local churches in the Community Makeover came together to perform 362 projects involving 3,500+ volunteers.  Then, on the evening of August 2nd, Fellowship joined the other churches for a community-wide worship service in the Sam’s Club parking lot in Hiram.  Kenny Ott, Fellowship UMC’s pastor, had the honor of praying for county officials including commissioners, mayors and law enforcement officers.  The Community Makeover leadership team known as Engage Atlanta, of which Pastor Kenny Ott is a founding member, estimate that there was in the neighborhood of 10,000 at the worship service, almost doubling last year’s attendance.

Pastor Kenny Ott stated:  “I want to say a personal thank you to each person who gave so much of themselves and their resources to be the hands and feet of Christ in our community in such a tangible way.  It touched my heart to see families serving together, to see folks from different churches and denominations put aside differences and serve together, and to see all those thousands of people worshipping and celebrating together Sunday night.  I know times are tough for most folks right now and that could easily become an excuse not to serve and want to be served instead; but like one person told me, ‘It helps me to be able to help someone else.  It reminds me that I am not struggling alone.’”
