Family Festival The River




CUMMING, GA – The River United Methodist Church will host its second annual Family Festival September 27th to benefit Forsyth County Parks and Recreation for the placement of handicap-accessible/adaptive swings in Forsyth County Parks.   The “Accessible Swing in Every Park Project” is unique because few park systems in the nation have been able to provide accessible swings in every park to date.  

The River UMC Family Festival will include activities for the whole family from 3 pm to 7 pm in Sharon Springs Park, Cumming Georgia.  Activities include a live outdoor concert by the Pete Whitfield Band starting at 5:30pm, hot air balloon rides, arts & crafts, safety demonstrations and free ID kits, facepainting, bouncehouse, raffles, an exhibition by Special Twist (a special needs cheer group) and a Karate demonstration from a special needs Karate team.  Concessions from Backyard Burger and Domino’s Pizza will be available for purchase at the event.  Admission is $3.00 for under 12 years, $5.00 for 12 years and older, under 3 years is free.  Family passes are available at the event for $15.  Event volunteers may register at www.handsonforsyth.com and sponsorships are available.

Last year’s festival raised enough funds to order one wheelchair swing which will be on display at the festival.  This year, our goal is to raise enough funds for 10 swings, including installation.  The swings range in price from $450 to $5,500 depending on size and type of swing.
 
The River UMC is a new church in southeast Forsyth County and will host the Family Festival annually as part of its commitment to outreach and community.  The River UMC meets every Sunday at 11:00am at Sharon Elementary, 3595 Old Atlanta Rd., Suwanee, GA  30024.  Sharon Springs Park is located at 1950 Sharon Rd. in Cumming.
