Three Simple Practices
Three simple practices have the potential of making a significant difference in your health! Yes, it’s true! By consuming 100 less calories a day, eating 3 low fat dairy servings (i.e., one cup), and walking an extra mile each day, you can begin a miraculous journey.
The North Georgia Conference Insurance Committee of the Board of Pension and Health Benefits has instituted a program for its participants and any others. We have chosen the theme, “On the Move by Faith.” As Abraham went to a strange land “by faith” (Hebrews 11:8), pastoral families also understand moving by faith and venturing into challenging and exciting new experiences. By faith, we will demonstrate that increased physical activity and healthy eating can produce an improved quality of life. This effort is an expression of a national initiative, America on the Move, which teaches and encourages people to lose weight and be physically active. Our initiative utilizes daily devotions (which are included herein) to remind and inspire us to take care of our God-given “temples” (I Corinthians 6:19-20).
How does one begin? First, spend a few minutes for 3 days establishing a base line concerning your calorie intake and how many steps you are taking each day. Begin by listing what you eat and assigning the number of calories consumed. After 3 days, average the daily amount and make that number less 100 calories your starting point and keep at it for the next 42 days. Then, clip a pedometer on your belt or your clothing and discover how many steps you are
taking each 24 hours for 3 days. Average the daily steps of the 3 days and add 2000 steps (approximately a mile) to each day’s walking over the next 6 weeks.
To assist you, a space is included on each page of this devotional booklet for you to enter the date and to record how many calories you estimate for the day, how many steps you have taken, and how many servings of low fat dairy you have eaten.
At the end of the six weeks, we want to hear how you have done. Please e-mail us a note. We're looking forward to hearing from you!
