District Superintendent of the Atlanta Emory District
A native of Brandon, Florida, Dana felt God’s call into Ordained Ministry when he was in Junior High School. A member of the Brandon, First UMC he learned ministry in the UMYF, in the Youth Choir, on the Administrative Board as Youth President and at the heart of great pastors like Dr. Ray Harrison, Dr. Bob Chapman and others.
Dana attended Florida Southern College where he majored in Religious Education. While at Southern he served as president of the Wesley Foundation and Inter-Faith Council. Graduating in 1981 with the BA in Religious Education he entered Candler School of Theology and completed his degree there in 1984. While at Candler Dana served the Salem UMC in Covington, GA which became his home church.
Dana has served the following appointments: Aldersgate, Augusta – Associate; Elberton – Associate; Moreland – Pastor; Faith - Cartersville; Bright Star - Douglasville; Zoar – Snellville and most recently McDonough First.
Dana is married to the former Sally McGill of South Carolina and they are the parents of three children: Matthew who is the band director at Elbert County High School in Elberton, GA, Jacob who has joined the work force, serving in Atlanta, and Katie who is a student at the University of North Georgia in Dahlonega.
Dana’s charge is to serve the 48 churches, the laity and pastors, as one who encourages and builds up the total Body of Christ. Together the Atlanta Emory District is about proclaiming the love of Jesus Christ to all though our acts of Unity, Celebrations, and Sharing as disciples are made of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. This is a great task and one that Dana embraces with an open and willing heart. It is his prayer that all the churches in the Atlanta Emory District become vital and alive communities of faith where God has planted them.
