United Methodist Children's Home

The United Methodist Children’s Home of the North Georgia Conference is a ministry to hurting children and families. All of our services are aimed at preventing the breakup of families, restoring and healing separated families, or teaching teens and young adults how to create successful and meaningful lives for their own future families. We want all of our youth and families to know they have the power to overcome their past and reach a brighter future. One of the most valuable resources we provide to our youth is the chance to work with caring adults who volunteer their time to make a difference in our youths’ lives. We’re flexible to work with your schedule and the interests and skills you can share with our young people. Current volunteer opportunities include tutor, foster parent, Big Brother/Big Sister, Visiting Family, Cottage Mentor, work group, Auxiliary flea market worker, and more! MUST Ministries

MUST Ministries cannot survive without the support of people like you - people who care about the needs of their neighbors. Most of the day-to-day work at MUST is provided by volunteers who give hundreds upon hundreds of hours to serve others. Last year alone volunteers like you contributed over 255,000 hours of their time to MUST to assist their neighbors in need. That means that for every 1 hour of MUST staff time volunteers donated 3 hours 30 minutes of their own time!

MUST provides a wide range of volunteer opportunities in all three program office locations(Marietta, Smyrna, Cherokee). Even if you have a busy schedule, have children, or have a large group you want to volunteer, there is always some way to volunteer with MUST. Our daily volunteer positions are listed here on our website, as well as group service project ideas, but please contact one of our volunteer coordinators today to learn about other opportunities to serve!

Wesley Community Centers

Wesley Community Centers offers deeply fulfilling opportunities to make a difference.  We treasure our volunteers.

Bethlehem Senior Center
Call Bingo ... teach crafts ... lead a Bible study ... share computer skills ... or just "hang out" with seniors who provide delightful company.

Project Extend
Skilled and unskilled volunteers are welcomed.  Companies, service organizations and churches provide teams who work under the supervision of an expert leader.  Teams of 6-12 persons are ideal for typical projects.  Tools are provided, although many of our "regulars" prefer to bring their own.  Training is available for volunteers interested in coordinating repair teams.

Camp Wesley
Be part of creating an exciting new camp to serve children and youth.  Contact us to learn more about the type of work involved, from clearing brush, to building cabins, to planning programming.

Wesley Walk for Others
Gather a few friends for an invigorating 6 mile walk around Stone Mountain, or a trek around the grounds of Atlanta Motor Speedway.  Walkers who collect pledges of $25 or more earn one of our popular "Giving Feet to the Faith of the Church" tee shirts, plus the satisfaction of helping important ministries.

Wesley Community Centers Board and Committees
We encourage the interest of volunteers who desire to apply their skills and expertise on our board or one of our committees.

Kwambekenya, Kenya

We assist this community in improving their situation; we have helped build a school and medical center so far. To develop personal Christian relationships with the people of Kenya. Trip includes a visit to the Havilla Children’s Home and a safari day visit to a game reserve to see African animals and landscape.

San Jose, Costa Rica

We provide structural repairs and VBS for Monte de los Olivos United Methodist Church, along with our missionaries Steve and Karoline Gober, in a poor area of San Jose, Costa Rica called Barrio Mexico. VBS is a successful outreach for the church and community.

Romania - Life Academy

To disciple and build up the youth of Romania, orphans who are transitioning from institutions to adult life.

Seminario Wesleyano de Venezuela

The Seminario Wesleyano de Venezuela is a undergraduate degree seminary. It is 7 years old and now has its own campus. Work teams are needed for a variety of construction projects on the beautiful campus. Both skilled and unskilled teams are welcome. Opportunities also include partnering with churches in the area and working with local teams. This is a great opportunity to impact an entire country for Christ. Action Ministries

Action Ministries is a unified family of ministries with programs in communities throughout North Georgia -- Athens, Atlanta, Augusta, Decatur, Gainesville, and Rome.

Our services include case management, supportive services, education, transitional housing, food and feeding, and residential addiction treatment. We also have Transitional Housing sites in communities throughout the region.

Romania - Deborah House

To provide safe, fun relationship building and interaction with the girls of Deborah House (home for abused girls in Romania), sharing the love of Christ with them and the community in which they live, as well as arms, legs and backs for light construction work on the facilities that support them.

Macedonia - Miss Stone Center

To prepare and deliver hot meals to those who are hungry and alone. To put smiles on faces of children as they learn English.

Hyderabad, India

We support Hope for Today Ministries on this trip. Witnessing, teaching and preaching will be required. We are also hoping to work on a church construction project in the tsunami area of NE India.

Family Mission Trip to Upper Sand Mountain Parish

Great family, youth, or group trip; mission opportunities for children as young as five up to folks with great grandchildren!  Everthing from working in the thrift shop, canning food, working in the organic garden, fixing up senoirs housing to buiding new affordable homes is available.

Upper Sand Mountain Parish is a cooperative ministry of ten small membership, rural United Methodist Churches serving near 1000 square miles of Southern Appalachian Alabama. The cooperative seeks to strengthen member congregations that they may better serve their members and to provide local and global opportunities for them and others to become involved in service and community development ministries.

College Rebuild Trip to Galveston, Texas

May 10-16, 2009
We are calling out college students from Wesley Foundations, United Methodist colleges, and anywhere in Georgia to join the team for Mission Restore 2009. We are heading to "ground zero" on the island of Galveston, Texas to help restore the homes and lives of people affected by Hurricane Ike in 2008. There is much recovery work to be done, and we need your help. Mission Restore is May 10-16, 2009, and the cost is $160 per person. Togo Medical Mission

Annual medical mission in Togo sponsored by Trinity on the Hill UMC and typically involving a number of churches, students from Medical College of GA and Augusta State University, and utilizing a number of skilled and unskilled participants in fostering a long term mission relationship being developed.  4 medical clinics are held typically seeing about 3000 people.  Our work includes pediatric and adult medicine, eyeglass clinic, and children's ministry. We will be in Lome and Kara.

Re-Roofing in Metro Atlanta

Metro Atlanta Project (M.A.P.)
July 10-16
Metro Atlanta Project (M.A.P.) is based out of Northside UMC and empowers teens to reach out to low-income senior citizens in Atlanta by addressing their housing needs. From July 10-16, M.A.P. will re-roof 12 -15 houses through the efforts of approximately 250 youth, more than 250 adults, 50 corporate sponsors, several churches and two local service agencies. Leigh Cottage Rebuild

The North Georgia United Methodist Men have teamed up with Glencastle Constructors (http://southeast.construction.com/features/archive/0604_Feature3.asp) to rebuild the burned down Leigh Cottage at the United Methodist Children's Home in Decatur, Ga.  Skilled and unskilled volunteers are needed to help with framing, roofing, sheetrock, finish carpentry, flooring, painting, cooking, landscaping, and clean up.  Please go to http://www.ngcumm.com/umch/ and sign up to be volunteer.  Volunteer weekends will start in August and continue through the end of the year.  Please go to the UMM website as the schedule will be somewhat fluid depending on the progress of our volunteers and the weather.
