Serbia In Mission Together Partnership

Gainseville FUMC is in ministry together with a 2 Point charge in the towns of Padina and Kovacica, Serbia. In Mission Together is designed to assist churches to engage in shared mission and ministry with a developing congregation or in the development of a relationship that could lead to a new congregation.

Cherie White -- GBGM missionary

Cherie White is a missionary with the Board of Global Ministries of The United Methodist Church presently assigned to the Seminario Dr. Gonzalo Baez Camargo of the United Methodist Church of Mexico, where she has been since 1992. She is the Academic Dean and teaches courses in Church History and Bible. The Methodist Seminary offers courses at high school (three years) and college (four years) levels, and the student body is about half female and half male. An extension program provides courses for over 300 students who are either lay pastors or lay persons wanting to know more or be better Sunday School teachers. Continuing education courses, which take place each January, have guest speakers from the U.S. and Latin America who offer new insights. The seminary also serves three of Mexico's six Annual Conferences. The daughter of Methodist missionaries, Cherie was born in Chile and raised in Cuba. She earned a Master of Arts in Anthropology from the University of Arizona and a Master of Arts in Theological Studies from Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, GA, and is currently enrolled in a Doctor of Ministry program. Her first appointment serving with GBGM was in Chile from 1972-75. In 1975 she transferred to Mexico and worked with several agencies before her assignment to the seminary. Cherie is married to Rev. Jose Luis Velazco, a retired UM missionary, and they are the parents of four children. George and Nancy Carew

Dr. George Carew is a professor at the United Methodist Seminary in Monrovia, Liberia. He is a native of Sierra Leone who taught at Spelman College in Atlanta before entering mission service. Nancy Carew's responsibilities include teaching foods and nutrition at the Women's Training Center. She is also a native of Sierra Leone. The Carews are members of Clarkston UMC in the North Georgia Annual Conference. They are the parents of six children.

John and Suzanne Funk, GBGM missionaries

John Funk serves as Director of the Rio Colorado Technical Agricultural High School. A graduate of Tennessee Technical University, he is a former teacher and businessman. Suzanne Brunk is Coordinator of Community Development at Rio Colorado Technical Agricultural High School. The school where they serve is related to the Methodist Church of Bolivia and provides junior and high school education. The Brunks are from the North Alabama Annual Conference and are the parents of two sons.

Seminario Wesleyano de Venezuela

The Seminario Wesleyano de Venezuela is a undergraduate degree seminary. It is 7 years old and now has its own campus. Work teams are needed for a variety of construction projects on the beautiful campus. Both skilled and unskilled teams are welcome. Chris Hena, GBGM missionary

Dr. Chris Hena serves as project coordinator in Eastern Kazakhstan for the Board of Global Ministries' Health and Relief Unit. She supervises a Comprehensive Community-Based Primary Health Care program, which trains local health workers to promote better health practices in their communities. She also works as a physician at one of the hospitals in Eastern Kazakhstan. She is a native of Liberia and holds three degrees, including a master's degree in public health from Emory University. She has one adopted daughter, Carolyn.

Romania - Deborah House

To provide safe, fun relationship building and interaction with the girls of Deborah House (home for abused girls in Romania), sharing the love of Christ with them and the community in which they live, as well as arms, legs and backs for light construction work on the facilities that support them.

Macedonia - Miss Stone Center

To prepare and deliver hot meals to those who are hungry and alone. To put smiles on faces of children as they learn English.

Jennifer Barbee Wilder

Jennfier Wilder has served through the General Board of Global Ministries as a teacher at Red Bird Mission School since 1992. She currently teaches first grade. She is married to Allen Wilder, who served Red Bird Mission School for 20 years. They have two children and are members of Jack's Creek UMC.

Stephen and Dianne Springer

The Rev. Stephen Springer is an Associate in Mission Service with the Board of Global Ministries. He is assigned to the Red Bird Missionary Conference where he serves as pastor of Thousandsticks United Methodist Church. He holds degrees from Pennsylvania State University and Virginia Polytechnic. Dianne Springer, also an Associate in Mission Service assigned to the Red Bird Missionary Conference, serves as Coordinator of Volunteer Services and Manager of the Community Clothing Store. Her degree is from Brookdale Community College in Lincroft, NJ. The Springers have three married children and four grandchildren.

Hyderabad, India

We support Hope for Today Ministries on this trip. Witnessing, teaching and preaching will be required. We are also hoping to work on a church construction project in the tsunami area of NE India.

Jamison and Susan Brunk, GBGM missionaries

The Rev. Jamison Brunk is a Home Missionary with the General Board of Global Ministries assigned to the Red Bird Missionary Conference. He serves as pastor of the Booneville/Clifty/Warrens Chapel United Methodist Circuit. He has degrees from Otterbein College and Asbury Theological Seminary. Susan Brunk, also a Home Missionary, serves as a nurse at the Family Resource Youth Service Center of Owsley County. She holds a BS degree in nursing from Grand Valley State University. The Brunks have two sons.

United Methodist Children's Home

The United Methodist Children’s Home of the North Georgia Conference is a ministry to hurting children and families. All of our services are aimed at preventing the breakup of families, restoring and healing separated families, or teaching teens and young adults how to create successful and meaningful lives for their own future families. We want all of our youth and families to know they have the power to overcome their past and reach a brighter future. One of the most valuable resources we provide to our youth is the chance to work with caring adults who volunteer their time to make a difference in our youths’ lives. Leigh Cottage Rebuild

The North Georgia United Methodist Men have teamed up with Glencastle Constructors (http://southeast.construction.com/features/archive/0604_Feature3.asp) to rebuild the burned down Leigh Cottage at the United Methodist Children's Home in Decatur, Ga.  Skilled and unskilled volunteers are needed to help with framing, roofing, sheetrock, finish carpentry, flooring, painting, cooking, landscaping, and clean up.  Please go to http://www.ngcumm.com/umch/ and sign up to be volunteer.  Volunteer weekends will start in August and continue through the end of the year.  Please go to the UMM website as the schedule will be somewhat fluid depending on the progress of our volunteers and the weather.

Construction Team to Cuba

Rev. Nick Elliott, former Executive Director of UMVIM, SEJ, will be leading a 12 member construction team to Havana, Cuba. Team will assemble in Miami on November 30 and fly to Havana on December 1-10. We will be working on the Methodist Seminary in old Havana, worshipping in different churches, and learning about the Cuban culture.

Nicaragua Medical MIssion

Carrollton First United Methodist Church is sponsoring a medical mission team to Nicaragua. The team, comprised of doctors, nurses, dentists, optometrists, pharmacists and support personnel, will travel to Tipitapa, Nicaragua. Under the direction of Ronnie & Angi Hopkins, Mission Society Missionaries, the team will travel to Los Playones community (small village in NW Nicaragua on Pacific Coast) to hold a Medical Clinic for 2 villages. Cooperative efforts are underway to help the communities get a medical clinic built and staffed. Drs, Dentists, Optometrists and Pharmacists must submit a notarized copy of current 2010 license. Medical supplies and health kits will be needed. UMVIM insurance is required. Facilities will be "rustic" and some tent camping may be necessary.
