“A Tradition Unlike Any Other”

I Was Thinking…

“A Tradition Unlike Any Other”.  We’ve heard that a lot recently.  It is the phrase used to describe ‘The Masters Golf Tournament’.  If I may, I’d like to borrow that phrase for this Holy Week.  Some refer to this week as “Passion Week”.  It is a week in which ‘traditionally’ Christians pause to experience the Passion found in the last week of the life of Jesus.

The tradition of focus on these final days in the life of Christ is a tradition that allows us to grow deeper in our understanding as well as appreciation for the love of God found in the sacrifice of Christ.  It is a ‘tradition unlike any other’.  As we focus this week our lives are enriched.

The tradition of reflection as Jesus’ humanity gives way to the divine purpose of God in Christ.  Jesus had hopes and dreams just as we do.  Yet he forsook those so that you and I could have an eternal dream of joy and peace.  It is a ‘tradition unlike any other’.  As we reflect this week our lives are peaceful.

The tradition of quiet because there are no words in the human vocabulary to describe how we feel that God’s only child suffered so that you and I would not eternally suffer.    It is a ‘tradition unlike any other’.  Sitting quiet with the shadows on the way to the cross makes us speechless.

The tradition of ‘grieving appreciation’ as we begin to understand exactly what the events of this week in Jesus’ life means to our lives.  We grieve that one who loved so unconditionally was treated so cruelly politically and personally.  We are grateful that Christ was willing to do so.  It is a ‘tradition unlike any other ‘.  Tears of grief and tears of joy mingle and flow from our heart.

“A Tradition Unlike Any Other”.  We’ve heard that a lot recently.  May we experience it beyond a golf game this week.

Always Thinking,
