Pianist / Organist


Norcross First United Methodist Church (NFUMC) in Norcross, Georgia, is seeking a Pianist/Organist. This is a part-time position. NFUMC is a thriving congregation with a long-standing reputation for its music program. The music is traditional with an eclectic mixture of repertoire. The successful candidate will work with the Director of Music to prepare and perform music during a variety of worship and concert events during the year. Other duties include playing for Sunday worship (11:00 am), seasonal services when needed, serve as accompanist for various ensembles and soloists Position Overview: The Pianist/Organist plays organ and/or piano for all traditional worship and special services and supports our chancel choir and musical ensembles. The role of this position is to help to shape worship through leadership of the musical experience under the direction of our Minister of Traditional Worship. This position requires a high level of accomplishment in organ and piano and the ability to provide sensitive and supportive accompaniment to a variety of musical groups. It is a position of spiritual leadership that supports our execution of worship and requires musical versatility, attention to detail, organization, preparation and exemplary sight-reading capability. This position requires a regular commitment of time on Wednesday evenings for rehearsals and Sunday mornings for worship, in addition to special services and rehearsals such as Holy Week, Christmas Eve, concerts, and musical productions. This is a part-time position, averaging 20 hours per week, including practice and preparation. Some scheduling flexibility required. Responsibilities: Performance and Playing of Organ and Piano • Play for all traditional services of the church, both regular and special. • Serve as the accompanist for choirs, ensembles, and soloists in regular and special rehearsals and performances, as assigned. • Demonstrate preparedness by securing repertoire in advance, practicing as needed and being responsive to any further details and directions provided by the director/conductor. • Available to serve as an accompanist/organist/pianist on a contract basis separate from compensation earned in this role, such as weddings and funerals. Planning and Administration for Worship and Special Services • Communicate regularly with the Director of Music to coordinate scheduling and the selection of pieces for worship (primarily preludes and postludes) at a minimum of two weeks in advance. • Advance notice of planned absence is required, with a minimum of three weeks requested. Contact and prepare for a substitute player when away. • Participate in the planning of worship services, choir rehearsals, and special music events, at the request of the Minister of Music. • Coordinate with the music staff an annual maintenance plan for all organs and pianos on campus. This includes routine checks of instruments and coordination with staff for usage by outside groups. Qualifications: Demonstrate passion about the Christian faith, actively seek to grow in personal relationship with God, and be committed to the mission and purpose of Norcross First. • Two years of experience in organ/piano leadership in worship is preferred • Familiarity with and experience playing various musical styles • Knowledge and experience with hymn selection, liturgy, worship themes and special services Contact/How to Apply Please send resume/cover letter, and any video you may wish to share, Preference will be given to applications received by March 1, 2021.
