Director of Children's Ministry

Skyland is seeking qualified candidates for a part-time Director of Children’s Ministry to join our ministry team. The position reports to the Senior Pastor and has primary responsibility for the overall direction and leadership of the children’s ministry for member and visitor children from pre-K through 5th grade. Skyland kids come from a variety of backgrounds, circumstances, and cultures. Due to covid-19, currently children’s activities are being conducted online only, with some limited in-person touchpoints held outdoors. Our successful candidate will have creative ideas to engage kids virtually, and transition in to in-person activities as circumstances allow. Major responsibilities include, but are not limited to: · Mentor, teach, and model an authentic relationship with Jesus through worship and prayer · Collaborate with and assist parents as they take the lead in raising their children to love and serve Jesus · Build relationships with other ministries at Skyland and identify potential collaborations · Plan for and lead Children’s Church activities weekly on Sunday mornings · Plan and execute a summer VBS program (assisted by a team of volunteers) · Lead a weekday fun and learning afternoon/evening program called King’s Kids (time and day TBD) · Assist with special children’s activities such as a Christmas play and Easter activities · Develop relationships with individual kids and families to provide a positive relationship and support for Christian life · Lead outreach activities with families in the community · In collaboration with church leadership, recruit, train, and maintain a pool of volunteers within the church to assist with children’s ministry activities Qualifications: • Sold-out spirit for Christ! • Outgoing personality, with interpersonal ability with kids and their families • Self-starter who is intrinsically motivated to research, learn, and try new things • Experience in a ministry setting, preferably working with elementary school students and their families • Strong communication, organization, and time-management skills • Endorse and support the beliefs, mission, and vision of Skyland • Knowledge of Spanish is a plus, but not required • Skyland participates in the UMC’s Safe Sanctuaries policy and guidelines, and selected applicant will be required to undergo background check and Safe Sanctuaries training. The Children's Minister will work a flexible average 10-hour work-week (with some seasonal variation). The strongest candidates will submit a cover letter in addition to a resume. Job Type: Part-time Pay: $12,000.00 - $16,000.00 per year Benefits: Flexible schedule Paid time off Education: High school or equivalent (Preferred) Experience : Church/ministry (volunteer or paid): 1 year (Preferred) Language: Bi-lingual – English and Spanish (Preferred) This Job Is: A good fit for applicants with gaps in their resume, or who have been out of the workforce for the past 6 months or more.
