Director of Nurseries


Non-Exempt, part-time General Description: Under the supervision of the Associate Minister: Discipleship, direct and oversee the operation of all RUMC and Chapel Roswell programs with Encounter (birth-36 months) and Explore (preschool/kindergarten) areas of children’s ministry. Specific Job Responsibilities: Nursery Staff Management Work with the Associate Minister Children and Families to recruit, interview, hire, train, and evaluate workers for all church nurseries. Ensure all staff are trained in and comply with CPR, AED, emergency situations, nursery policy and guidelines, continuing education opportunities, and church Abuse Prevention and Intervention Procedures (APIP). Develop, post, and distribute to nursery staff the monthly nursery schedules, including Sunday morning, weekday, and special event nurseries. Communicate all changes to the monthly schedules and ensure that workers comply as scheduled. The Director of Young Children’s Ministry should be present during Sunday morning nursery hours as well as special event nursery offerings. Develop and train responsible on-site Nursery Captains who are prepared to supervise all nurseries in the absence of the Director of Young Children’s Ministry. Maintain, approve, and submit payroll records as scheduled. Participate in the annual performance evaluation of nursery staff. Volunteer Management Work to recruit, train, schedule, supervise, and support volunteers to work with children in both the Encounter (birth-36 months) and Explore (preschool/kindergarten) programs. This includes communicating curriculum plans and volunteer expectations. Coordinate with the RUMC Office Manager to ensure all volunteers are APIP compliant. Special Events Plan, coordinate, and execute special events for Encounter and Explore groups. These include but are not limited to Parent Date Nights, Story Hours, and Kindergarten meet-ups. Assist Children’s Ministry staff with major events throughout the year. These include but are not limited to Easter Egg Hunt, Vacation Bible School, Mission Camp, Fall Festival, and Evening in Bethlehem. Hospitality and Environment Provide a welcoming, safe, and faith-based experience for young children and their families. This includes being present as families arrive for church activities, building relationships with families and their children, reaching out when new babies are born, etc. Specific duties related to the environment include maintaining sanitary classrooms and equipment, coordinating inventory and supply purchases, and working with the PMO Director and RUMCK Director to maintain shared space. Administration Maintain church database at it relates to families with young children, including check-in system, registrations, class rosters, medical information/waivers, and calendaring. Prepare and monitor the ministry budget line items in coordination with Associate Minister: Discipleship and Children’s Ministry Operations Coordinator. Prepare and distribute communications related to ministry area in coordination with the Children’s Ministry Operations Coordinator and church Communications team. Participate in full staff meetings and Children’s Ministry Team meetings as scheduled.
