Job Title: Director of Smyrna First United Methodist Preschool and Kindergarten (full-time)
Job Description: The preschool director creates and maintains a loving and caring, positive Christian environment for preschool students, families, and staff. The director is responsible for operating the school in accordance with approved policies, procedures, and standards to provide an educational, nurturing, and safe environment. This individual is responsible for all school operations, students, and staff, reporting to the Senior Pastor and Staff Parish Relations Committee.
Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education with a Master’s degree preferred.
  • Valid teaching certificate with 3 years classroom teaching experience.
  • A genuine love for young children with a well-developed philosophy on their education that parallels the educational philosophy of the program.
  • Good organizational, managerial, and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate professionally and interact well with children, parents, staff, church staff, and church members. Possesses the ability to discern needs and appropriately, sensitively and proactively act on them.
  • A good listener skilled at conflict resolution who is comfortable with public speaking when needed and understands and respects the role as being the face of Smyrna First United Methodist Preschool and Kindergarten both in and outside the church.
  • Possesses strong Christian values and morals, being honest and trustworthy, maintaining confidentiality at all times.
 
Job Requirements and Responsibilities:
 
  • Must have CPR/First Aid certification, renewed every two years, pass a background check, and follow and enforce SFUMC’s Safe Sanctuary Policy. Responsible for emergency policies in place as well as risk management.
  • Plans and conducts SFUMC’s preschool and kindergarten program, incorporating a knowledge of relevant guidelines and regulations (Bright from the Start) as well as adhering to the North Georgia UMC’s school of excellence certification guidelines. Programs must be developmentally appropriate and Christian based.
  • Responsible for long- and short-range planning for the program, including creating the next school year’s
budget with the church leadership team to promote cohesion and alignment within the church.
  • Supervises and manages school’s curriculum, lesson plans, classes, and implementation of classroom management practices that ensure a safe and secure Christian orderly environment, with the proactive development of current curriculum updates. Coordinates with family ministries to ensure alignment with children’s education and discipleship.
  • Leads a team of teachers in the operation of the preschool, including day-to-day operations and special events. Schedules work hours for staff, provides opportunities for staff development that provide a minimum of ten hours continued training each year, assists teachers with managing behavior problems or developmental concerns. Conducts formal staff reviews. Observes and evaluates staff on an ongoing basis.
  • Attends staff meetings and church committee meetings as directed by the senior minister.
  • Coordinates meetings with the Children’s Council for planning special events for students, fundraising, and parent workshops.
  • Implements and supervises staff members with school and church policies and procedures regarding the care and safety of the children.
  • Takes on any and all daily duties as situationally required, demonstrating a willingness to do what is needed.
  • Coordinates and leads preschool staff meetings. Attends parent conferences as requested or needed. Attends IEP meetings and works with parents and staff in efforts to attain and coordinate services. Plans, attends, coordinates, and participates as needed in all special events and programming. Responsible for creating and maintaining the school calendar, including working with facilities for setups as needed.
