Alpharetta Methodist is a large, active church committed to serving and reaching our community. We are seeking a full-time Director of Communications to provide leadership and strategic direction for the church’s marketing and communications initiatives.

The successful candidate will have a minimum of 8 years’ marketing experience with both outbound and inbound audiences, exceptional planning and project management skills, and the ability to write engagingly for various media. The Director of Communications is both a management and hands-on role, and the ideal candidate will possess the technical skills to be able to create marketing pieces using Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign. Demonstrated Creative Cloud experience is a requirement.

The Director of Communications reports to the Executive Pastor and works closely with ministry leaders, vendors and volunteers.

This position is based in Alpharetta, Georgia, with designated in-office workdays.

General Description of Job:

The Communications Director is responsible for all outbound marketing campaigns and strategies with the goal of reaching and inviting people who don’t have church home to Alpharetta Methodist. The Communications Director also oversees all inbound marketing campaigns and materials designed to inform and inspire the church family to participate in worship, service and educational opportunities where they can grow as disciples. The Communications Director supervises the Communications and Graphics Specialist.

Specific Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for planning and strategy for outbound and inbound marketing

  • Oversee the use of all marketing tools including the website, app, social media, the Friday E-news and other targeted emails, digital and printed promotional signage, directional signage, printed materials and paid advertising

  • Develop strategies to grow the website, social media and app user data base; and to increase conversion rate optimization, with the ultimate goal of engaging users in such a way that they are compelled to visit the church, become involved and develop as disciples

  • Meet with ministry leaders to provide counsel and direction in strategies for promoting events and ministries

  • Manage the Communications budget

  • Serve as content editor of all marketing materials

  • Serve as member of the Worship Planning Team, the Worship Design Team and the Marketing-Communications Committee

  • Manage and recruit volunteer photographers for major events

  • Manage Smug Mug galleries

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism, graphic design or related field
  • Excel in project management, from concept development through design and publication

  • Demonstrated skill with Adobe Creative Suite

  • Demonstrated proficiency in CMS, specifically WordPress, with an understanding of CSS and SEO

  • Experience in creative communications and writing for a variety of audiences. Strong editing and proofreading skills and familiarity with AP style guidelines

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills to facilitate working with a wide range of individuals and groups

  • Proficiency with social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter)

  • Willingness to help and an open mind to change and new ideas

  • Energetic, flexible team player and ability to work well under tight deadlines

  • Strong visionary, organizational and planning skills with the ability to project throughout the lifespan of a marketing campaign

  • Ability to work effectively with multiple programs and projects
