POSITION DESCRIPTION

TITLE:  Director of Children’s Ministries and PALS weekday Ministry

 

REPORTS TO: Pastor 

 

HOURS: Salaried

 

JOB SUMMARY

The Director of Children’s Ministries and PALS weekday Ministry provides enthusiastic leadership for the full scope of Trinity’s children’s ministries 

• by developing caring relationships with children and their families as well as paid and volunteer staff in children’s minsitries; 
• facilitating their growth in faith and involvement in the life of the church; 
• planning and implementing educational, fellowship, and service opportunities; and recruiting, supporting, and training volunteer and paid children’s staff. 
• ensuring that children’s ministry, including PALS, is a warm, nurturing, safe, and loving environment for each child, where self-concepts are enhanced, independence is encouraged, individuality respected, and a love of God and His Church is fostered
• operating PALS on a sound basis, meeting fiscal, legal, and practical standards and objectives
• The DCM works as part of a team of staff and volunteers.

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION/TRAINING, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Current Certification in Education in the state of Georgia (this is a minimum education and training requirement)
• Experience in Christian Education
• Knowledge of United Methodist theology, educational materials, and best practices
• Ability to supervise and to work effectively with children, parents, paid and volunteer staff
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated leadership skills 
• A deep love for working with children 
• Proficient in Microsoft Office, including spreadsheets, database, and reporting tools, and Internet capabilities
• Must pass background investigation to comply with church requirements.

 

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Possess a warm, loving and friendly personality, be sensitive to the feelings and needs of others, be able to relate well to children, and willing to fulfill responsibilities. This person must display emotional maturity and stability and must have physical stamina.

 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

• ADMINISTRATIVE
o Maintain compliance with responsibilities and liabilities as required by the state of Georgia Childcare Licensing and Trinity’s Safe Sanctuary policy. 
o Maintain all records that pertain to the administration of children’s ministry and PALS.
o Handle the hiring, orientation, training, scheduling and supervision of PALS staff. 
o Plan and manage income and expenditures within the budget for children’s ministry and PALS. 
o Manage purchasing of supplies and equipment for children’s ministry and PALS. 
o Communicate, as appropriate, with the PALS Advisory Board, Trinity Children’s Council, Church Council, parents and public.
o Plan, implement, and monitor PALS and other children’s ministry curriculum, based on the developmental levels of children and consistent with United Methodist teachings and values. 
o Ensure that the paid and volunteer staff maintain background checks and Safe Sanctuary training as outlined in Trinity’s Safe Sanctuary Guideline. 
o Counsel children, parents, and staff as necessary. 
o Prepare annual calendars, and arrange special events such as field trips, recognition events, Vacation Bible School, and parties.
o Participate in and plan regular meetings with PALS staff and participate in church staff meetings. 
o Maintain and review annually with Church Council Trinity’s Safe Sanctuary Guidelines.
o Maintain updated records of background checks for all church volunteers and paid staff.
o Perform other job related duties as assigned by supervisor. 

 

• OUTREACH
o Invite PALS families to events and worship opportunities at Trinity United Methodist Church.
o Create opportunities for PALS families to become assimilated into the life of the congregation.
o Maintain and update a social media presence for PALS and children’s ministry through church and PALS websites, Facebook, and newsletters.

 

• WORSHIP
o In consultation with the Pastor, facilitate participation of children in worship services throughout the year.
o Set an example of worship for the children for whom you are responsible.
• PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
o Provide training, support and resources for paid and volunteer staff in Children’s ministry and PALS. This includes and is not limited to annual Safe Sanctuary training.
o Attend and participate in professional conferences, lectures and other educational events.
