Isle of Hope United Methodist Church in Savannah GA. seeks a talented, energetic, and dynamic Director of Modern Worship to grow an established Anchor Worship service. The Anchor Worship service is a non-traditional service that draws from a variety of worship styles with a focus on creating a welcoming environment that is intentionally seeker-friendly.
 The Director is responsible for teaching, training, and encouraging God's people through worship in harmony with the purpose of Isle of Hope UMC and its leadership. The Director will work closely with pastoral leadership and other staff members to support the vision of the church by leading the worship ministry with a focus on all worship being done for the glory of God. As a church we value various worship forms, therefore worship services are participatory rather than performance oriented. The Director would prioritize the importance of using worship as a means of forging relationships to Christ and reaching out to people from all age groups and backgrounds. The candidate will be encouraged to identify innovative ways to bring together people with different worship styles, whether they prefer traditional or modern forms of worship, both within the church and the community at large.
The ideal candidate would have a strong, mature faith in Jesus as savior and passion for helping people worship the Lord. Candidates should demonstrate a high proficiency in one or more instruments and a strong proficiency in media software. The foremost responsibility will be planning, rehearsing and leading music for our weekly 9:15 a.m. Anchor Worship service.
We have a dedicated group of volunteer singers and musicians who love God and music ministry. We are looking for a strong leader who can grow the team and provide a consistent worship experience week to week. The Director will seek to identify, recruit, and work closely with volunteers as well as that of the servant leadership team that assists with producing the service.
As an individual, the Director should model worship in their personal life in accordance with biblical teaching and the purpose of Isle of Hope UMC.
Position Responsibilities:

  • Lead the congregation in singing, praising, and engaging God's presence through modern Christian music, while creating a welcoming environment that is intentionally seeker-friendly;
  • Develop, lead, and direct teams of servant leaders to support the worship service, working closely with pastoral leadership and other staff members;
  • Recruit, train, and develop the skills of the vocalists, musicians, and worship team volunteers as well as the servant leadership team;
  • Create excitement and a welcoming environment to draw in new people from the surrounding community
  • Assist with the planning and overseeing of seasonal productions and special events such as concerts and musicals.
  • Arrange set up for audio/visual needs for various ministry related activities, programs, and services along with necessary lights/sound, livestream etc…Involved in coordinating with the youth pastor/leader for the Wednesday evening youth service.
Skills and Qualifications:
  • Demonstrate spiritual maturity and a continual desire to personally grow in the likeness of Jesus Christ;
  • Great team player, experience working collaboratively with other churches, pastoral leadership, and staff members;
  • Possess strong administrative, leadership, and interpersonal skills;
  • Gifted instrumentalist (pianist or guitarist preferable) and vocalist with a high proficiency in one or more instruments and media software;
  • Experience in combining media technology and the fine/performing arts;
  • Understand and anticipate diverse forms of feedback from congregation on worship styles with an appreciation of how that feedback can be used as a bridge to create a more inclusive and welcoming environment;
A Bachelor's degree in music is helpful but not required.
