Associate Music Director - Children's Choirs

Haygood Memorial United Methodist Church is a growing, dynamic church seeking an Associate Children's Music Director to lead a flourishing children's choir program. This person will help children find identity in Christ through relationships with others; involving children in worship and the life of the Church; provide children opportunities for discipleship, mission, and outreach. The ultimate purpose of this position is to glorify God through music and choose music that will allow the children and congregation to connect and grow in the Lord through worship. The position will report to Haygood's Director for Music. The position is a part-time and hourly position requiring a minimum of 10 hours per week.
Major Tasks, Responsibilities, and Key Accountabilities |
30%- Provide administration for all children's choirs, including:
- Researching and selecting music for the Cherub Choir or work with Music Director to select music
- Providing weekly communication for parents and a monthly newsletter
- Keeping attendance for all children’s choir rehearsals and performances
- a working knowledge of our membership software.
20% - Conduct and rehearse one children's choir while assisting the other; Children's choir rehearsals occur each Wednesday night during fall, winter and spring (Labor Day through Pentecost.). Conduct additional performances as needed.
20% - Plan and conduct eight children's choir worship offerings on Sunday mornings, including a rehearsal one hour before the worship service.
15% Lead annual and ongoing recruitment strategy for children's choirs. Recruitment strategies include:
- Work with VBS Chair(s) to coordinate music sessions for annual Vacation Bible School
- Running a children's music workshop in the summer
- Organizing a fall campaign for registration
5% - Participate in one continuing education event each year on children's choirs.
10% - Maintain Haygood’s music library
Weekly Hours:
- 3:00-6:00pm each Wednesday evening for children’s choir practice (5:00-6:00 pm)
- 10:00am-12:00pm on Sundays when children’s choir sing in worship or as music schedule requires
- 5 additional hours of planning time suggested each week
Minimum Qualificaitons:
- Minimum two years of experience in conducting children’s choir programs
- Candidate must complete Safe Sanctuary training/ certification
Education Required:
- An undergraduate degree in Music and/or equivalent degree with the knowledge, skills, and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a bachelor’s degree program
