Director of Missions - Part-Time


Brooks United Methodist Church, located in Brooks, Georgia (south Fayette County), is seeking a Missions Director to join our staff team and coordinate two vital missions - Second Chance Thrift Shop and the Brooks UMC Food Pantry. The Missions Director will be responsible for leading and organizing the day-to-day operations of both missions as well as recruiting and equipping volunteers to serve. The Thrift Shop is located in a small historic house, opens two days per week to the public, and volunteers meet to process and price donations one day per week. The Food Pantry packs and distributes blessing boxes once a month. This position has an oportuntiy to expand with the growth of the missions.

Must possess a passion for serving others and creating Christ-centered mission environments where all are treated with fairness, grace, dignity, and respect
Knowledge of thrift shop or food pantry operations or a willingness to learn
Strong servant leadership and organizational skills
Effective written and verbal communication skills
Experience with leading volunteers
Basic computer skills
Familiarty with posting on social media
Must be able to lift and carry boxes and bags of donations

1. Manages the operations of Second Chance Thrift Shop which includes:
     * processing donations and arranging for disposal of unwanted items
     * overseeing pricing of items
     * setting up attractive displays
     * recruiting, shepherding, and training volunteers
     * preparing a monthly volunteer work schedule
     * resolving all volunteer, donor, and customer concerns in a timely manner
     * developing shop strategies and events to increase customer traffic
     * posting photos of items for sale on social media
     * ordering or acquiring supplies for the shop
     * leading the Thrift Shop Team meeting every other month
     * monitoring safety hazards and scheduling maintenance on the shop as needed

2. Manages the operations of the Brooks UMC Food Pantry which includes:
     * overseeing once a month blessing box packing and distribution day
     * recruting and training volunteers 
     * intake of new pantry families
     * maintaining food pantry records
     * initiating food/supply drives within the church
     * coordinating once a month pick up of supplies from Midwest Food Bank
    * managing food pantry budget
    * communicating and developing relationships with food pantry families
    * maintaining an organized food pantry closet and storage area
    * identifying and reporting any safety concerns
    * establishing relationships with committed donors to the pantry
    * willingness to strategize and lead future expansion of food pantry operations in coordination with pastor and leadership board

3. Assists with other small church mission projects throughout the year
4. Attends all staff meetings and planning meetings as required
5. Attends worship at Brooks UMC
