Position: Director of Music
Reports to: Pastor
Job Summary: To develop, implement, schedule, and coordinate the music ministry for the church in a way that enhances the spirit of worship.
Work with the Pastor to select music for all worship services, including traditional and contemporary, regularly scheduled Sunday Services as well as special services that occur during the year that are appropriate to the worship theme and season; this will include hymns, anthems, contemporary and any special music presentations that may be required.
Purchase music and related supplies within budget guidelines.
Provide all necessary music resources to the pianist and choir members.
Provide necessary music related information to the Administrative Secretary by the communicated deadline for each week and for special services, for publication in the Order of Service (bulletin)
Direct the Chancel Choir and lead the congregational singing during the Sunday services and special services held during the year.
Lead choir practice on Wednesday evenings and as may be determined needed for special services or presentations.
Approve, coordinate and schedule special music to be presented; such as soloists, small groups, Praise Band, Children's choirs, etc.
Develop the musical skills of choir members through group rehearsals and solo rehearsals in voice technique.
Arrange for volunteers to direct the choir, lead the congregational singing, lead the choir practice, etc. during scheduled absences.
Scheduled absences must be approved by the Pastor in advance.
Notify the Pastor immediately of illness or personal needs that require absence so that a substitute can be provided.
Maintain adequate communication with all musicians, the choir members, audio/technology team, and other involved parties to assure the success of the music program.
Provide oversight to pianist and ensures piano coverage in the emergency event of immediate illness
Promote choir participation to the congregation.
Develop and manage an annual budget for all music programs.
Ensure compliance with copyright permissions, and perform reporting as required.
Administer and care for the music Library, choir robes, and other music related supplies.
Coordinate with the Trustees and the Pastor any acquisition, maintenance or repair concerns for the piano, organ, or other music related equipment as needed.
Participate as a member of the Worship Committee to coordinate all Music Ministry activities.
Any and all other duties as assigned by the Pastor in relation to music.
Skills and Qualifications:
Knowledge of church music
Knowledge of music direction techniques
Knowledge of efficient rehearsal practices
Choral/Vocal experience
Ability to sight read
High School graduate, college preferred
Technical proficiency with GSuite apps and email, etc.
Prefer minimum of 2 years experience as a church music director
Ability to lead and work cooperatively with others
Favorable background check
