The Bishop's Town Hall Meeting scheduled for October 17th has been cancelled

The Bishop's Day Apart on October 14th is still scheduled.
All clergy are invited to a Clergy Day Apart with Bishop Sue on October 14 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Park on Polk on Marietta First UMC's campus. Please bring a lawn chair for this casual, outdoor time of worship, connection, and renewal.

  • Be sure to bring a lawn chair.
  • Park at Marietta First UMC or nearby overflow parking at Maple Avenue UMC and First Presbyterian of Marietta (Shuttles will be available).
  • Please register, and note that if you already registered for the October 14 gathering, your registration is still in place. 
  • If weather prevents gathering outside, the event will be held in the sanctuary.
  • Food Trucks will be available at noon for those who would like to enjoy lunch together.


BEAT Grant Information

Process for Grant

● Local church has a conversation with the District Superintendent and fills out the application form.

● Grant Application submitted to the District Superintendent after Church Council or equivalent approval.

● If approved by the District Superintendent, the Grant Application is submitted to the District Strategic Growth Team prior to the meeting of the District Strategic Growth Team or district equivalent.

● If approved by the District Strategic Growth Team or equivalent, the Grant Application is to be emailed to Melody Brown (mbrown@ngumc.org) for submission to BEAT at least fourteen (14) days before the scheduled meeting of BEAT.

● BEAT will seek to review and return a decision on each grant application within a 60 day window.

● Upon approval by BEAT, grants will be made to local churches after email confirmation from a person designated by BEAT to evaluate milestones and grants by local churches. BEAT GRANT Criteria When it receives an application, BEAT will determine which of the following levels

Central North District Lay Servant Ministries Course Offerings 
All courses will meet for three weeks, and a hybrid format will be used.  The hybrid model will require 2 hours of interactive instruction in ZOOM followed by 2 hours of weekly instruction in Google Classroom. At the end of the third week there will be no Google Classroom assignments.  Ten clock hours are required for the completion of a course.  In order to join a course, participants will need to download the ZOOM app.  Prior to the beginning of the class, a meeting ID and password will be sent to all enrollees.  It is highly recommended that you use a computer rather than a smart phone for ZOOM sessions.  For the Google Classroom session, participants will receive an invitation from the facilitator to join the class.  The cost of courses is $42.00 which does not include the book. Ministry Partner 'Vanco Faith' Offers Online Giving Tools for Local Churches

Aligning with stewardship season in many congregations, the General Council on Finance and Administration (GCFA) has announced that Vanco has renewed its ministry partnership with GCFA through 2024. Vanco Faith helps churches thrive by providing online giving tools, giving pages that use a church’s own photos and stories, a church engagement app to keep members connected, and a variety of giving options to encourage giving to church ministries. The Vanco giving platform integrates with multiple church management software providers so churches are not required to change software. 

Vanco provides services to more than 3,000 United Methodist churches and ministries.

Planning to Preach During Advent

Participants receive a certificate for 1-hour CEU following the online class.

The Advent season will be here before we know it. Preparing to preach during Advent is one of the most important tasks that preachers undertake each year.

During this session, Olu Brown, pastor of Impact Church, one of the fastest growing churches in the country, will share his advice on preparing to preach during Advent.

Using his book HOPE: An Advent Journey as a reference, Hope will take participants through the Advent season, offering suggestions on making plans as you prepare for Advent and Christmas 2021.

Participants will receive a CEU certificate. If you can’t make it to the live event, a recording of the session will be sent to registrants afterwards.
