North Georgia Conference Disaster Response Update

Tracking Hurricane Ian

Hurricane Ian has made landfall in Florida as a Category 4 storm. The North Georgia Conference is in contact with the Florida Conference and South Georgia Conference. Our best response today is to pray, give, and prepare.

NEEDS TODAY

  • As always, don’t self deploy to a disaster area. Our agreement with our United Methodist conferences and UMCOR is to wait until we are invited as the local region coordinates the disaster response.
  • Your financial gift to UMCOR is especially appreciated. You may give through any United Methodist Church in the North Georgia Conference by designating your donation for UMCOR U.S. Disaster Response #901670 or directly at https://umcmission.org/advance-project/901670/
  • In the coming weeks and months, let's replenish the Disaster Response Warehouse. UMCOR Cleaning Kits help those affected by floods, hurricanes, and tornadoes to begin the overwhelming job of cleaning up. Find instructions on assembling Cleaning Buckets at https://umcmission.org/umcor-cleaning-kit/

DAMAGE IN YOUR CHURCH OR COMMUNITY

If you have storm-related damage in your community which requires church response, please contact Conference Disaster Response Coordinator, Rev. Scott Parrish.

If your church or church property is damaged by the storm the Pastor or Trustees Chair should make two phone calls: one to the church insurance company and one to the District Superintendent.
