Our day will begin with worship at 9:00 am and ends at 3:30 pm. The cost is $50 per person and includes lunch.
The hero of our study lived in tumultuous days. But she was not the lawMAN that many might have expected. Rather, our hero, the only Judge who also bore the title "Prophet," would be better described as a "mother in Israel." Deborah served as the steady hand on the wheel of Israel's chaos for 45 years. Her greatest moment is the core of our study.
The era of the Judges was a time of great moral darkness - the "Wild West" of Israel's story. This was a time of chaos and violence where "every man did what was right in his own eyes" or in modern idiom, where "might made right." It was the Judges, appointed by God and empowered by the Holy Spirit, who faced down Israel's enemies abroad and kept the peace at home...
The epic tale of the great battle for the Jezreel, Jabin, king of the Canaanites, and his ruthless general, Sisera, come against the armies of Israel. The question on the table is "Who will rule Canaan?" Will it be the Canaanites with their superior weapons and international networks? Or will it be Israel with their submission to the living God? If Deborah has anything to say about the matter, we can be assured it won't be Canaan.
