Far More Ministries: Connecting People to Life, Hope, Purpose, and Wholeness

2/25/2015
By Ansley Brackin Communications Specialist Rev. Terry Hunter is not quite sure how Far More Ministries of Williamson UMC originally started, because it was born from bits and pieces: ideas inspired by other ministries, and sermons that called to the super hero inside every congregant. Hunter is a big fan of comic books and often references them in Sunday morning messages, but he believes there are greater powers in the real world than can be found within illustrated pages. “We all have a ...

Serving Together: United Methodist Connection is Strong in Athens

9/10/2014
By Rev. David Wofford   “How good it is when God’s people live together in unity!” -Psalm 133:1    On April 15, 2013, the Oconee Street UMC building caught fire and burned to the ground. It is said that before the old church bell fell to the ground beneath that hillside steeple, it rang and rang while being pelted by firehoses dousing the incineration. The entire city could hear her bell tolling alarmingly. Though the fire has been surely difficult for the people of Oconee Street UMC, they have ...

By Rev. John Moeller   Hunger is not a problem most of us closely associate with the United States, judged around the world as the “land of plenty.” Few of us know what it’s like to put children to bed hungry or undernourished, and few know the feelings of defeat and hopelessness that come with being unable to provide all of our children’s basic needs. But many of our north Georgia neighbors do know! Hunger is a battle they fight daily.  The impact of hunger, especially on children, is serious...
