Register Now for Imagine No Malaria Basketball Tournament


The Athens-Elberton District will hold a 3-on-3 basketball tournament fundraiser for Imagine No Malaria on May 30 at Athens First UMC. Team from the District and beyond are invited to register for this fun day for a great cause. Players as young as fifth and sixth graders through adult teams will play in age and gender brackets.

Participation Fee:
$80 per team registered by May 22, 2015; $100 per team registered after May 22, 2015. Fee includes t-shirts.

Team size:
Three players and one alternate/sub player.

Age/Gender brackets:
Grades 5-6 Boys, Grades 5-6 Girls, Grades 7-8 Boys, Grades 7-8 Girls, High School Boys, High School Girls, Adult Men, Adult Women. Teams will be placed in the age bracket of the team’s oldest player.

Rules and Regulations:
-Team check-in and open court begin at 8:00 a.m.
-Brackets will be revealed at the time of check-in.
-Each team can have a maximum of four players. Two players must be present to avoid disqualification.
-Each player can only play on one team for the length of the tournament.
-Players are expected to read over the entry, liability, and waiver forms.
-Participants under the age of 18 must have the signature of a parent or legal guardian.
-All games will be officiated by an adult.
-The team at the top of the bracket gets the ball first.
-Each team gets one 45-second timeout per game. The clock can only be stopped in the last minute or at the referee’s discretion.
-Games will be played to 21 points or 22 minutes, whichever comes first. Teams must win by two points. The games will be by ones and twos. If the clock expires and a team hasn’t reached 21 points, the team with the most points wins. If it is a tie, free throws will determine the winner.
-After any dead ball, made basket, or change of possession, the ball must be taken back beyond the three-point line (take back area). The offensive player must pass the ball into play if it is after a dead ball.
-The top of the backboard is out of bounds.
-Substitutions can be made at any dead ball with the approval of the referee.
-All decisions made by referees are final.
-Any non-shooting foul will result in the ball being checked up at the take back line.
-Any shooting fouls inside the three-point line will result in one free throw. Shooting fouls outside the three-point line will result in two free throws.
-On the fifth team foul, the opposing team gets one free throw. Fouls before that result in that team keeping possession of the ball.
-Any flagrant or technical foul will result in two free throws and possession to the offended team.
-Referees have the ability to bench players for disciplinary reasons (language, disrespect to referees or players, etc.). That player will sit out until the opposing team scores two points. Referees also have the ability to eject players for continual misbehavior.
-One-day tournament format. No refunds will be awarded.
