United Methodist Children’s Home Honors Rev. Bob Gillespie

On Tuesday, July 22family, friends, trustees, and staff members gathered at the United Methodist Children’s Home in front of the newly named Gillespie Education Center to honor Rev. Bob Gillespie.

The Children’s Home staff was shocked and delighted when an anonymous donor pledged a gift of $100,000 dollars in honor of Gillespie, a father of three adopted sons and daughters.

At the celebration, CEO Bob Bruder-Mattson, Bishop Mike Watson, and Bob Gillespie himself, spoke before the new sign for the Gillespie Education Center was uncovered. Guests then enjoyed catching up and getting their picture taken with the Gillespie family.

As mentioned in the Children’s Home’s “Signposts” magazine, Bob Gillespie decided to go into ministry during a sermon called “Choose You This Day Whom You Will Serve” at Hapeville UMC. Gillespie emotionally recalls the spiritual partnership forged between he and his wife that day as they decided together to answer the call.  With wife Sondra alongside, Gillespie has contributed 56 years to ordained ministry.

The Gillespies are just as surprised as everyone else by the generous donation. Though they don't know who the mystery donor is, the gift was accepted with immense gratitude and appreciation.
