Sandy Springs UMC Scores Big With Nothing But Nets Fundraiser

It was Nothing But Nets Day at Sandy Springs UMC on Saturday, March 28. To raise money and awareness for Nothing But Nets, the church held free throw shooting and 3-pt shooting contests with age categories ranging from 5 to 6 year olds to a 55+ category.  Participants shot at age-appropriate heights and distances.

Each entry cost $10 and allowed the participant 20 shots.  All participants received a t-shirt and winners received a plaque.  T-shirts were sold at the event and after worship on Sunday to raise additional funds.

Despite a tornado warning in the area the morning of the event, Sandy Springs UMC raised a little more than $2,000 for Nothing But Nets.

All generations turned out to volunteer and participate in the event.  (The women’s 55+ category was particularly competitive!)

The church received outstanding publicity from the event, with local papers including a feature article in advance of the event and one paper sending a photographer.

The Nothing But Nets event was part of a larger “Every Member in Mission” church focus during Lent. The congregation loved it and awareness was raised throughout the community.
