Update: Responding to Northwest Georgia Tornadoes

2/6/2013

(Updated Feb. 6)

The week after tornadoes and severe storms struck northwest Georgia and other parts of the southeast, most areas are just completing emergency phase and are not ready to accept volunteers.

There are several websites your church and your mission teams can monitor for updates, in addition to ngumc.org.

Georgia's Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (VOAD) website is: www.gavoad.communityos.org/cms/home. There you can find reliable, current information on volunteer opportunites.

For volunteer opportunities in Gordon County, visit the website http://www.gordoncounty.org/tornado/

For Bartow County, visit http://www.bartowrecovery.org/ and click "I Want to Help" or call 770-773-3264. They are taking contact information and will be in touch with volunteers as they are ready to receive work teams.

For volunteer opportunities and unmet needs in Adairsville contact Adairsville Church of God at 770-773-3264.

Please encourage volunteers and others in your church to wait until help is requested before travelling to either of these communities.

Donations can be made to North Georgia Conference Disaster Response efforts by placing a check in any North Georgia United Methodist Church offering plate with "Winter 2013 Tornadoes" in the memo line.
