Update on Tornado Recovery in Bartow and Gordon Counties
2/27/2013
From Rev. Thom Shores
Conference Disaster Response Chair
We want to thank all of the ERT and Chainsaw teams that have responded to the initial cleanup in both Bartow and Gordon Counties. A tremendous amount of work has been accomplished in a relatively short amount of time.
Bartow County has now transitioned into the rebuild stage and is inviting volunteer groups to come help with this effort. Groups or individuals should call the Church of God in Adairsville that is still acting as the volunteer reception center at 770-773-3264.
There is also the need for food and financial gifts to help those displaced by the storm. Financial gifts can be made to North Georgia Conference Disaster Response efforts by placing a check in any North Georgia United Methodist Church offering plate with "Winter 2013 Tornadoes" in the memo line. Food supplies can be taken directly to the Church of God in Adairsville or if transportation is needed call Thom Shores at 770-949-2555.
Gordon County is beginning the transition process and should be ready to receive volunteer groups soon. We will publish contact numbers when they are established.
Two official call-in numbers are being established right now for both Bartow and Gordon county relief efforts.
Please be aware that because this was not a federally declared disaster the communities affected are not receiving any federal funds to help with the costs of cleanup and repairs.
