McCord Appointed Director of the Georgia Commission on Higher Education

3/15/2015

Bishop B. Michael Watson, Bishop James King, and the Georgia Commission on Higher Education announce the appointment of Rev. Michael McCord as the next Executive Director of the Georgia United Methodist Commission on Higher Education and Campus Ministry. The appointment will be effective in June of 2015.

McCord will follow Rev. Cindy Autry who will retire in June.

McCord is currently Director of Campus Ministry Resources and Training for the United Methodist General Board of Higher Education in Nashville.

He will be "coming home" for the new assignment. McCord grew up in the North Georgia Conference, then served as founder and director of the Wesley Foundation in Macon from 2001 to 2010. He is an ordained elder in the South Georgia Conference.

"We are so excited about this appointment because Michael knows us in Georgia," said Leigh Martin, president of the Commission. "Not only that, he knows Higher Education across the United Methodist denomination."

The Commission serves the North and South Georgia Conferences, encompassing nine United Methodist colleges and universities, two United Methodist seminaries, and 16 Wesley Foundations.

"This is an incredible opportunity," said McCord. "I have had the opportunity to travel the world, and Georgia's Commission on Higher Education and Campus Ministry is the best and the largest in United Methodism. I'll be following an incredible leader, and can build on that success."
