Wiley Stephens to preach 2 Sundays in Lent on ‘Day 1’
The Rev. Dr. B. Wiley Stephens, currently in his 24th year as senior pastor of Dunwoody United Methodist Church in Dunwoody, Ga., is the featured preacher March 9 and 23 on “Day 1” with host Peter Wallace, the nationally syndicated ecumenical radio program also accessible online at Day1.org. Stephens has preached regularly on “Day 1” over the past 10 years. His sermon for March 9, the first Sunday in Lent, based on Genesis 2:15-17; 3:1-7, and Matthew 4:1-11, is entitled “Who Is in Charge?” His message for March 23, the third Sunday in Lent, “Dropping the Mask We Hide Behind,” is based on the story of Jesus’ encounter with a Samaritan woman at the well (John 4:5-15). The program includes interviews with Stephens conducted by Wallace, who is also executive producer. “Day 1,” has been broadcast every week for nearly 69 years, formerly as “The Protestant Hour.” Featuring outstanding preachers from the mainline denominations, “Day 1” is currently distributed to more than 200 radio stations across America and overseas. Rev. Charles Gardner of Atlanta First UMC To Receive Turner Downtown Community Leadership Award from Central Atlanta Progress.
Started in 2003, the award was designed to recognize those in our community who as individual private citizens step forward and do good works on Downtown's behalf. Recipients of this award rarely ever show up on the normal radar screen in the corporate and organizational leadership world. But just because they are out of sight, does not mean the value of service and dedication is any less. In some cases, acting as private individuals, supporting causes without the backing of corporate budgets, may be a more formidable task making successes at this level even more note worthy.
