Ariel Bowen Memorial UMC in Atlanta received a surprise visit from Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed on Sunday, Oct. 22, the church's 135th anniversary. Mayor Reed presented the church with the Phoenix Award, the highest honor given to a religious organization by the City of Atlanta, in recognition of the congregation's work in the community.
Ariel Bowen was featured in local media this summer as the church distributed box fans to seniors in the church's southwest Atlanta neighborhood. (Watch the CBS46 news report.) This is just one of the ways this congregation serves its community.
