The Columbia County Court has granted motions for injunctions ordering the North Georgia Annual Conference to allow Mann-Mize United Methodist Church (interlocutory injunction) and Trinity on the Hill United Methodist Church (temporary injunction) to proceed with the disaffiliation process.
While these decisions are disappointing, they are not final decisions on the merits of these lawsuits.
Our belief is that separation of church and state, specifically the free exercise clause and the establishment clause, are foundational tenets of our country and of our faith. For that reason, the North Georgia Conference, the board of trustees, district superintendents, and bishops will immediately appeal these decisions.
The North Georgia Conference remains committed to the mission of God's church, the mission of The United Methodist Church to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world, and to uphold our United Methodist Book of Discipline.
