BELONG: New Training Opportunity for Emerging Lay Leadership

1/16/2020

Starting next month, the North Georgia Conference will launch a training opportunity for emerging leaders and extends an invitation to laity to apply.

The Bishop’s Emerging Leaders of North Georgia (BELONG) is designed to equip laity across our conference with leadership tools necessary to work toward God’s vision within their local church, community, district, conference, and beyond. The application deadline is January 31.

The idea for BELONG was born when a group of young United Methodists approached Bishop Sue Haupert-Johnson about a desire to grow and serve in our Conference. From that group's initial meeting, this new initiative has developed into a year-long program that will focus on justice, inclusion, cultural competency, innovation, and self-reflection.

The 2020 cohort will meet four times for in-person retreats at Glisson Camp and Retreat Center (two overnight and two Saturday retreats) and will spend time throughout the year learning about leadership through webinars, community immersion, a localized project, and fellowship.

The scheduled retreat dates are

  • February 22-23 (Overnight)
  • April 18 (Full Day)
  • August 22 (Full Day)
  • November 7-8 (Overnight)
The cost of the program is $150 for the year, with scholarship support available as needed.

Laity are invited to complete the interest application for the 2020 BELONG cohort at:
